What to See in the Winter Sky

here are many interesting sights to see in the night sky in winter. Join Professor Bob Sudomir from Walsh University as he uses some nifty planetarium software to take us on a tour of the February sky. Fun for all ages. Weather permitting, we'll then head outside to look through some big telescopes and see what we can see.

Star Gazing at the Library

Get a good look at the winter sky with big telescopes and knowledgeable guides, Professors Bob Sudomir and Tom Freeland from Walsh University. Bundle up and brave the cold. Hot chocolate will be served. All ages will enjoy viewing the wonders of the night sky. This program depends upon a clear night and will be canceled if the sky is clouded over.

Great Backyard Bird County Hike (Hartville)

Help Stark Parks spot and count as many birds as we can at the David Fichtner Outdoor Education Center in Hartville. Results will be submitted to the National Great Backyard Bird Count. You are welcome to participate no matter what your experience level. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars, if you have them. Reservations appreciated.

Help Stark Parks spot and count as many birds as we can along the new Middle Branch (of the Nimishillen Creek) Trail through Martindale and Reifsnyder Parks. Stark Parks Wood Carving Get-Together

Do you want to learn a relaxing, low-cost hobby? Are you an experienced woodcarver, looking to meet other people that share your interest? Master woodcarver Don Fetters will share his expertise with you. Materials will be provided for beginners. Additional wood blanks may be available for purchase. Trail Emergency Assistance Volunteer Training

Stark Parks will have a 2-hour traing class for volunteers willing to help park staff clear and maintain trails after floods, storms, high winds, and other urgent trail emergencies.
