The Malone University School of Arts and Science – Department of Art is currently displaying the works of Jack McWhorter; associate professor of art at Kent State University, Stark Campus, Barbara Moran Drennan, Ph.D., professor of art at Malone University; and guest artist Sarah Winther Shumaker. The McFadden and Fountain Galleries are located within the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W., Canton; Art-in-a-Case is located within Cattell Library, on the Canton campus.

The McFadden Gallery presents the work of Jack McWhorter. The oil paintings exhibited explore the intersections between science and art, and are driven by the insight into their similar working processes. The viewer will encounter botanic forms, knots, warped geometric structures, soap bubbles, and found sounds in these evocative abstract paintings. McWhorter has been an artist-in-residence at various programs in Ohio and abroad. His work can be found in 53 public and private collections in 12 states as well as Belgium, China, and Israel. Work is on display now through February 24th, 2010.

The Fountain Gallery has on display the work of Barbara Moran Drennan, Ph.D., Professor of Art at Malone University. The portraits in this exhibit are the result of her sabbatical studies into portrait painting and the use of various underlying palettes of color to initiate the works. Also imbedded in the work is the idea of narrative and personal biographies found in the surroundings of the painting. Dr. Drennan has been a part of Malone's faculty for more than 15 years teaching painting and drawing along with a course in contemporary issues in art. Her work is on display now through March 1, 2010.
