From the people who brought you The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps and The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything, VeggieTales composer Kurt Heinecke will present a series of workshop sessions at Malone University Tuesday, March 23, throughout the day in the Memorial Chapel of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton. The workshops – focusing on film scoring using Logic Studio software -- are being hosted by the Malone University music production program and 25th Street Productions.

A used cell phone drive has been organized to benefit Robbie, a Canal Fulton man with ALS disease. Proceeds will go to assist with costs of a trip to China for treatment.

This exhibit concentrates on the extremely important, but nonpolitical role that First Ladies play in international diplomatic relationships for our country. This exhibit will feature First Ladies Elizabeth Monroe, Harriet Lane, Helen Taft, Lou Hoover, Jackie Kennedy, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter and Hillary Clinton. On display will be gifts given to First Ladies from various countries around the world on loan from Presidential Libraries and Museums.

The Parent-Teacher Organization at HOPE Academy is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. March 23 to benefit first-grader Earl Thurmond, who was recently diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma and must undergo three months of chemotherapy and possibly radiation treatment. Proceeds will help Earl’s family pay his medical bills.
Cost is $5 for everyone 12 and older and $2.50 for children under 12. Donations also will be accepted.

The Massillon Parks and Recreation Department and Jump Start Sports have combined forces to offer a Speed Training and Conditioning Program at Paul L. David Athletic Training Center. Classes will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This program will work on speed training, agility and conditioning to help athletes ages 8-14 take their game to the next level. Humanitarian, international peacemaker, former mountaineer, co-founder of two non-profit organizations and co-author of Three Cups of Tea, Greg Mortenson will present the Schooler Lecture at Mount Union College on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 8 p.m. in the Timken Gymnasium of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
He is among one of the three foreigners to receive the highest civil award, Sitara-e-Pakistan (Star of Pakistan), for his courage and humanitarian efforts to promote girls’ education and literacy in rural areas. In 2009, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Malone University Department of Theatre will stage Oscar Wilde’s classic, The Importance of Being Earnest, Tuesday, March 23 through Saturday, March 27 in the Performing Arts Hall of Founders Hall on the Canton campus.
