A used cell phone drive has been organized to benefit Robbie, a Canal Fulton man with ALS disease. Proceeds will go to assist with costs of a trip to China for treatment.
Used cell phones can be dropped off through May 29 at Cut and Curl Corner, at 2170 Locust St. in Canal Fulton, next to FirstMerit Bank and across the street from Dairy Queen. Cub Scout Pack 303 in Canal Fulton will go door-to-door March 13 to distribute a flier about the national “Scouting for Food” food collection that will take place March 20.
Residents are asked to choose items from the list and place them in a bag or box outside their front door either late on the night of March 19 or by 8:30 a.m. March 20. The Scouts will collect the donations March 27, starting at 9 a.m.
The plan is to target the city of Canal Fulton. Depending on participation, the effort might expand into the Spring Valley/Camelot and Fulton East (Towpath/Millrace) subdivisions.

The Malone University School of Education will present a workshop -- Basic First Aid: Adult/Child/Infant CPR -- Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Osborne Hall located on the Canton campus. The workshop – led by instructor Barbara Easlick, D.S.M. – costs $45 per person, or $25 for CPR recertification. This workshop provides an in-depth discussion of injury prevention, recognition of emergencies, and basic first aid responses to emergency situations. Workshop also includes a demonstration of adult/infant/child CPR.

Spring Craft Show

The 1485th Transportation Co. Ohio National Guard Armory will hold a Spring Craft Show on March 20 and 21 at the armory at 2800 N. Wooster Ave. in Dover. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 20 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21.
There will be more than 60 tables of crafters with hand-crafted Items for sale.
Bring your children to the show and visit the Easter Bunny.
Our food stand will operate both days, with a variety of foods, featuring our signature Hot Chef Salad.

“Win a Night Out with Sparky B” contest runs till April 8 to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital. Winner will be drawn April 9 at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Sparky B, a national DJ/entertainer, will pick up the winner of the drawing and three friends in a party bus provided by Rockin’ Cleveland and go to Dave and Busters for dinner and game play. This exhibit concentrates on the extremely important, but nonpolitical role that First Ladies play in international diplomatic relationships for our country. This exhibit will feature First Ladies Elizabeth Monroe, Harriet Lane, Helen Taft, Lou Hoover, Jackie Kennedy, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter and Hillary Clinton. On display will be gifts given to First Ladies from various countries around the world on loan from Presidential Libraries and Museums.

The Malone University Pioneer football team is collaborating with the YWCA Emergency Shelter program and area moving companies in an all out effort to help greater Canton area individuals transition out of emergency housing. Collection day is scheduled for Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Anyone wishing to make a donation must live in the greater Canton area and schedule in advance for a home pick-up time by calling the Canton YWCA at 330-453-7644. Members of the football team will provide the “muscle,” volunteering their time to carry, load, and unload larger items.

The Stark County District Library in partnership with Mercy Medical Center will hold a Family Health Fair and Cover the Uninsured Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 20 at the Main Library, at 715 Market Ave. N in Canton.
The free event is open to all ages and will offer free health screenings, expert speakers, and healthy activities.
More than 20 exhibitors will be on hand to provide free health screenings including blood pressure and cholesterol, plus refreshments and door prizes.

Brown Mackie College-North Canton will host Education Day, “Grow Your Life. Evolve Your Mind. Become Your Vision,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 20 at 4300 Munson St. NW, Jackson Township.

Local resident Carolyn Caskey will visit Rodman Public Library on Saturday, March 20 for a presentation on the early history and little known facts of the Fairmount Children’s Home.

She will recount the beginnings of the home from when the Rakestraws bought the property and what it was like, selling the property, and naming of the home.

Caskey will also talk about the construction of the buildings, which weren’t all built at the same time, and the superintendents and their problems.
