Get a jump start on your holiday fitness plan! The new sessions of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department’s land and aquatic fitness classes begin February 8 at the Massillon Recreation Center.

The Celtic Club is sponsoring the St. Pet’s Day food donation drive from March 8 through March 17.

Residents can donate dry dog and cat food and cat litter at their local fire station, in most cases, March 8 through March 12, and March 15 through March 17 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Donations also can be dropped off in the front lobby of the Repository.

Donations will benefit local humane and pet rescue groups.

Your children can learn to swim at Massillon Recreation Center. The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department has a new session of weekday swim lessons beginning the week of February 8 at the Massillon Recreation Center. There are morning and evening classes available on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays. Classes are for ages 6 months and up. Our classes are taught by certified instructors.

Mercy Medical Center now offers a weekly breastfeeding support group open to all breastfeeding women and their babies. This free program, entitled the Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group, is held every Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Mercy Childbirth Education Room in Mercy Hall.

Led by Regina Ravine, RN, IBCLC, Certified Lactation Consultant for Mercy Medical Center, this support group offers weekly baby weight checks, a question and answer session about breastfeeding challenges, as well as networking with other breastfeeding moms.

Discuss the 2010 Big Read book selection, "The Shawl" by Cynthia Ozick in the Chit Chat Coffee Shoppe at the Massillon Museum on Monday, March 8, at noon. The discussion is free and open to the public; no reservations are required. The Big Read is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and sponsored by the Massillon Museum in collaboration with Massillon Public Library and Kent State University Stark Campus.
