Get a jump start on your holiday fitness plan! The new sessions of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department’s land and aquatic fitness classes begin February 8 at the Massillon Recreation Center.

Land classes: Yoga; Stability Ball; Buns, Legs & Torso; Baby & Me; TNT (Trim-n-Tone); Lunchercize, Turbo Kick; Body Sculpting; Pilates; Group Cycling and Fitness Blast

Aquatic Classes: Aqua Fit, H2O Boot Camp, Water Walking, Baby & Me Aquatic fitness, Wave Runner, Arthritis Foundation Program, Aqua Fitness Medley, Water Fitness, and Combo Water Workout.

Your children can learn to swim at Massillon Recreation Center. The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department has a new session of weekday swim lessons beginning the week of February 8 at the Massillon Recreation Center. There are morning and evening classes available on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays. Classes are for ages 6 months and up. Our classes are taught by certified instructors.

The first session in the financial literacy program “Framing Your World for Success” will be Sept. 14 from 10 to 11 a.m.
The classes will be taught by KeyBank financial counselors. Topics include budgeting and banking basics, credit and debit and more.
Classes will continue on the first Monday of every month through June at Turnaround Community Outreach at 321 Cherry Ave. NE in Canton.
KeyBank Foundation and Turnaround Community Outreach are sponsoring the program.

Princess Formals will hold a $600 prom gown giveaway in April. Each person who comes in to the Princess Formals store at 28 B W. Canal St. (U.S. Route 62) in Navarre, across from the post office, is eligible to enter the giveaway.
The store has gowns, shoes, tiaras and accessories for many special occasions and all ages.

Every Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. there will be a free blood pressure clinic at Summit's Trace of Greater Canton Independent Living Dining Room, at 820 34th St. NW in Canton.
The agency providing the blood pressure service is Advantage Home Health Services.

Mercy Medical Center now offers a weekly breastfeeding support group open to all breastfeeding women and their babies. This free program, entitled the Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group, is held every Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Mercy Childbirth Education Room in Mercy Hall.

Led by Regina Ravine, RN, IBCLC, Certified Lactation Consultant for Mercy Medical Center, this support group offers weekly baby weight checks, a question and answer session about breastfeeding challenges, as well as networking with other breastfeeding moms.

Healing is a vital part of the grieving process and is a journey formed out of brokenness and results in a turn? Are you feeling broken and/or lost? Grief can impact a person's life for weeks, months, and even years after a loss. Hospice of Stark County considers it an honor and a privilege to provide professional, compassionate and free services to assist with the needs of the grieving individuals and families.

Dates: Monday afternoons beginning 2/8 to 3/15 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm.

Students preparing to take college entrance exams will benefit from the ACT prep class offered at Stark State College six consecutive Wednesdays, from March 3 through April 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Cost of the course is $199 and includes extensive Cambridge TestPrep Plus materials. Instructors for the course are Pamela Long-Rice, guidance counselor at Copley High School, and Chip Rankin, math and science teacher at Lake High School.
Through this course, students develop strategies for taking any standardized test and will discuss information specific to the ACT.

Hospice of Stark County needs individuals for the following volunteer opportunities:
• Volunteers to assist with answering phones, computer work, mailings, or other office functions.
• Volunteers to provide caregivers a break by staying with the patient for a short period of time.
• Volunteers to deliver much needed supplies to a patients’ home.
• Volunteers to help with fundraising events to benefit patient care.
• Volunteers interested in joining committees, such as the Advisory Board, Fundraising Committee, etc.

Victims of Violence Support Group meets at 6 p.m. the first Monday of every month in the Stark County District Library Main Library, at 715 Market Ave. N in Canton.
This support group is for people who have lost loved ones due to violence or some other form of unexpected death.

A tai chi class takes place every Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Merging Hearts Holistic Center. Tai chi is a Chinese martial art believed to facilitate the flow of qi (life force) in the body, promoting good health and vitality.
Cost is $30 for four classes or $10 per class.

Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 4 will meet weekly from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays in Trinity United Church of Christ at 3909 Blackburn Rd. NW (corner of Blackburn Road and Fulton Drive NW, across from Johnny Applecheese), in Plain Township.
Activities at each meeting will vary according to what the boy-led leadership decides to do.
Any boy age 11 and older is welcome to join us at any weekly meeting, swim night or camp outing.

Meetings are held the first and third Mondays of the month unless a holiday falls on a Monday. If holiday falls on Monday, the meeting will be switched to Tuesday.

Women of all ages are invited to learn to sing a-cappella. Visit the City of Flags, a 60 female, voice chorus, on any Monday evening at 7:15 pm. except Monday holidays. Rehearsal hall is at Greenwood Christian Church in Canton. We dance and sing and have a great time. We are currently working on contest music for our regional competition in May and on new music for our annual show, Nov. 6, 2010. Pay us a visit and see if this is the musical hobby for which you have been searching.

Malone University is pleased to announce its 2010 Woolman Lecturer, Beth Newman, Ph.D., professor of theology and ethics, Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, March 1-2, 2010 in the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue NW in Canton. Both lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Newman will also be speaking at the University’s chapel service Tuesday, March 2 at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary of The Johnson Center. Her chapel address is entitled Worshipping with Helmets.

The Malone University School of Arts and Sciences – Department of Music will present a senior recital featuring Melissa Morris, a soprano from Brewster, Ohio, accompanied by pianist, Ralitsa Georgieva-Smith. The program – free and open to the public – will take place Monday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, located on the Canton campus.
