The Friends of the Canal Fulton Public Library will sponsor an informational program by the Canal Fulton and Lawrence Township fire departments at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Canal Fulton Community Building, 735 E. Cherry St.
The meeting will cover the proposed Northwest Joint Fire District for the community.

The 44th annual Northeast Ohio Photography Show at the Canton Jewish Community Center will run from Feb. 5 through Feb. 25. The Jewish Center, at 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A special preview for entrants, sponsors, patrons and donors will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
The show, sponsored by the late Dr. Samuel S. and Celia G. Reinglass, will run through Feb. 25.

Mercy Medical Center of Jackson/Massillon will be offering low-cost blood screenings on February 19 The facility will be offering total cholesterol screening for $2, glucose screening (blood sugar) for $2, and lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL) for $8, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. No appointment is necessary and a 12-hour fast is recommended for more accurate results. The Stark Youth Arts Council is hosting an Arts Career Day from 9 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. Feb. 19 at Kent State University Stark Campus.
The purpose of the day is for Stark County High School students to meet individuals who have made a “home” and “ life” for themselves in the arts.
It’s also an opportunity for the artists to share their experiences and their journeys as creative individuals.
The day will be divided into seven half-hour sessions with a five-minute break between sessions.
Lunch break will be 45 minutes at 11:15 a.m. (Lunch will be provided for instructors.)

The Massillon Recreation Center is offering swim lessons during the day for home school students. These lessons are on Friday Mornings and include a half hour swim lesson and free swim from 10 am-1 pm.

A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.

“The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, is on view from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays Feb. 6 through April 2 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.
Admission is free.

McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.

Walsh University’s Office of Residence Life will sponsor its annual fish fry Benefit Dinner Feb. 19 in the Francoeur Conference Center from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Cost is $5 for children, $10 for adults. Menu options include the choice of fish or spaghetti, French fries or baked potato, applesauce or coleslaw, and a dinner roll. A meal “to go” option is also available. Raffle prizes, including gift baskets and gift certificates, will be given away.

Lake Center Christian School will host a Fish Fry from 5 to 7 :30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the school’s Kaufman Center.
For $10 adults receive fried or baked fish, jojos or a baked potato, applesauce or coleslaw, banana pudding, bread and a drink. A child-size dinner is only $7.35. Hot dogs and mac ’n’ cheese are also available for fish foes.

St. George Romanian Orthodox Church invites you to our returning Fish Fries and Chicken Dinners resuming Friday, February 12 and every Friday during Lent. We offer battered or oven baked cod or Romanian chicken served with our famous mamaliga, rice pilaf or mac & cheese. Please note, there will be no Fry on January 8. Funds raised help our parish food pantry along with outreach in our community.

Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 4 will meet at Trinity United Church of Christ at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19 for a camp outing. The group will depart from Trinity no later than 6 p.m.
Trinity is at 3909 Blackburn Rd. NW in Plain Township.
Activities Feb. 20 will include taking a hike around the Camp Manatoc campgrounds and going to a local sledding hill, weather permitted. Camp Manatoc is at 1075 Truxell Rd. in Peninsula. Wewill return to Trinity at about 10 a.m. Feb. 21.
Cost of the outing is $25 for Scouts and $20 for adults. Any visiting boys are entitled to one free camp-out.

The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two youth basketball programs on Friday evenings, January 15-February 19 at the Massillon Recreation Center. Little Hoop Stars will be 5:30-6:30 pm and Hoop Stars will be 6:30-7:30 pm. Little Hoop Stars is designed to teach ages 4-6 the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding in a fun-oriented atmosphere. Hoop Stars will teach 1st and 2nd graders more of the basketball basics and includes low-competition games so players can learn to apply their skills in a game format.

This weekend the Lions Lincoln Theatre will show “Back to the Future” at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 and 20 and 6 p.m. Feb. 21.
In this classic sci-fi adventure from director Robert Zemeckis, eccentric inventor Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) turns a DeLorean into a time machine that inadvertently sends his young friend, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), 30 years into the past. While stuck in the 1950s, Marty disrupts his parents' destiny and risks throwing the time-space continuum completely out of whack. The only way back to 1985 now is to get mom and dad to pucker up.

Congregational United Church of Christ will host a free Family Movie Night, featuring the movie “Up,” from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 19.

The program includes a lecture and Q&A session, and is being offered free and open to the public in conjunction with Arts in Stark, the Canton Museum of Art, and the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography.
