The 44th annual Northeast Ohio Photography Show at the Canton Jewish Community Center will run from Feb. 5 through Feb. 25. The Jewish Center, at 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A special preview for entrants, sponsors, patrons and donors will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
The show, sponsored by the late Dr. Samuel S. and Celia G. Reinglass, will run through Feb. 25.

The Canton MATHCOUNTS Competition will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 in the main auditorium at Stark State College of Technology.
Registration is open to all Stark County schools with grades 6 through 8.
The state competition will take place in March.

The Carroll County Animal Protection League will hold a membership drive and fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Kishman’s IGA at 202 E. High St. in Minerva.
The league will be selling its cookbooks, plus dog and cat toys.
All proceeds will go toward the CCAPL’s goal of acquiring land and building an animal shelter for Carroll County. Stop by and learn about our plans to give homeless animals a safe place to live until they can be placed in a new home.

The 2010 Great Big Home & Garden Expo will take place Feb. 6-14 at the I-X Center in Cleveland.
The show will feature three custom-built model homes, 21 gardens, hundreds of exhibits, a host of other features and celebrity appearances, and a multitude of new ideas, products and inspiration for home improvement projects.
The show is being produced by Marketplace Events of Solon.
Company spokesman Ty Pennington will make two live appearances at the show Feb. 13.

Perry graduate and Kent State University alum Stephanie Zimmerman recently opened a male-female resale store — selling gently used young men and women's clothing, shoes, and accessories, and books — in the Hartville MarketPlace. The store will have a grand opening party on Feb. 13 with homemade appetizers and a special promotion of 20 percent off items with red or pink in them in celebration of Valentine's Day. Great Backyard Bird Count Sat., Feb. 13, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Audubon and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology ask you to count birds today. We’re counting at TWC! Join the TWC Birders and help take this “snapshot” of TWC birds. Come for 15 minutes or a couple of hours (as long or short a time as you like), identify and count birds, and enjoy a snack. We’ll post our results to the GBBC web site, where you can see results from across the continent. Free, but we’ll request a donation for snacks.

Canton Symphony Orchestra presents SymphonyLand, a fun way to introduce children (ages 4-8) to instrumental sounds. Central Catholic High School will host a free fitness fun camp for 6- to 10-year-old children on four Saturdays Feb. 13 through March 6.

The sessions will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Each session will focus on different health topics and include classes, activities and giveaways.

A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.

Summit Cycling Center is seeking donation of used bicycles, tricycles and cycling-related equipment to support its program of providing bicycles at little or no cost according to community needs.
Summit Cycling Center is a local nonprofit organization that provides bicycle safety and mechanical training, promotes transportation alternatives and provides bicycles at little or no cost based on Akron area community needs. Some used bicycles are used for community program training purposes. Other bicycles will be rebuilt and sold or given away in the Akron area.

often we are surprised by the thoughts and feelings that sweep over us. Our culture tells us to "be strong," which sometimes means to stop grieving. But as Grief Share knows, sometimes one of the best ways to cope with grief from the death of a loved one is to talk about your pain with others who care. This is the reason why The Chapel in North Canton is offering to the public this nationally recognized grief support program called Grief Share.

Friends of the Stark County District Library has rescheduled to Feb. 13 the Bag Day Book Sale that was canceled Feb. 6 due to bad weather The sale, open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 13.
The Bag Day Book Sale is in the garage across the parking lot from the Main Library building.
The regular Used Book Sale will be in the cafe area just inside the front door of the Main Library building.

Burlington Coat Factory at 4790 Everhard Rd. NW is collecting monetary donations to support the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
Donations will be accepted through Feb. 17. All Burlington Coat Factory locations will accept donations to the fund.
Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources.

Through the Help Haiti campaign, Westfield Belden Village mall is serving as a donation collection site for Convoy of Hope Charities. Donations can be made at the Concierge Center in the north wing. Proceeds are transferred directly to those in need.
Convoy of Hope is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that already has an emergency command center operating just outside of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and is distributing water and supplies to victims of the earthquake.

“The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, is on view from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays Feb. 6 through April 2 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.

McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.

On Saturdays and Sundays in January and February from noon to 3 p.m., you can experience the thrill of hand-feeding wild birds at Beech Creek Botanical Gardens and Nature Preserve, at 11929 Beech St. NE in Washington Township, just outside Alliance.
Volunteers will be available to coach you on attracting chickadees to feed from your hand.
The bird feeder is just across the bridge, about a quarter mile from the parking lot.
Dress for the weather. We will provide bird seed, a fire, and a warm beverage.

An ABCs (Artist's Business Cards) two-day workshop will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on two Saturdays beginning Feb. 13.
The class will meet in room 102 in the Canton Museum of Art at 1001 Market Ave. N in Canton.

The class is for beginning and intermediate students.

Congregational United Church of Christ will hold a Valentine’s Swiss Steak Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 13.
The dinner will include Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, corn, salad, homemade desserts and a drink.
Cost is $8 adults, $4 youth ages 4 through 12, free for children 3 and younger.
The church, at 1530 Easton St. NE in Plain Township, will donate $2 from every dinner to the Red Cross for the Haiti relief fund.

Learn to ski or snowboard with the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Family Ski Club.

The Cleveland Jazz orchestra sets the mood for Valentine's Day with its “It’s All Love” concert showcasing some of the greatest love songs ever written, at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Hanna Theatre.
The night will feature sensuous, heart-felt ballads composed by America's greatest songwriters including "In a Sentimental Mood," and "My Funny Valentine."
