The 44th annual Northeast Ohio Photography Show at the Canton Jewish Community Center will run from Feb. 5 through Feb. 25. The Jewish Center, at 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A special preview for entrants, sponsors, patrons and donors will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
The show, sponsored by the late Dr. Samuel S. and Celia G. Reinglass, will run through Feb. 25.

Canton Symphony Orchestra presents SymphonyLand, a fun way to introduce children (ages 4-8) to instrumental sounds. A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.

Burlington Coat Factory at 4790 Everhard Rd. NW is collecting monetary donations to support the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
Donations will be accepted through Feb. 17. All Burlington Coat Factory locations will accept donations to the fund.
Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources.

Through the Help Haiti campaign, Westfield Belden Village mall is serving as a donation collection site for Convoy of Hope Charities. Donations can be made at the Concierge Center in the north wing. Proceeds are transferred directly to those in need.
Convoy of Hope is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that already has an emergency command center operating just outside of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and is distributing water and supplies to victims of the earthquake.

The 2010 Great Big Home & Garden Expo will take place Feb. 6-14 at the I-X Center in Cleveland.
The show will feature three custom-built model homes, 21 gardens, hundreds of exhibits, a host of other features and celebrity appearances, and a multitude of new ideas, products and inspiration for home improvements projects.
The show is being produced by Marketplace Events of Solon.
Company spokesman Ty Pennington will make two live appearances at the show Feb. 13.

“The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, is on view from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays Feb. 6 through April 2 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.
Admission is free.

McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.

Feburary meeting will be Feb. 10 at 6 pm at the canton mueseum of art. The meeting will be held in the library with socila time at 5:30 pm and the meeting at 6 pm. All are welcome refreshments will be provided.

Students in grades five through eight can stretch their ingenuity to the limits by creating inventions that incorporate the use of rubber bands for the Rubber Band Contest for Young Inventors.

Presented by The University of Akron’s Akron Global Polymer Academy and the Rubber Division, American Chemical Society, the contest features two competition divisions: Arts/Leisure and Science/Engineering.

Four finalists will be brought to Akron, Ohio where the first-place winner and runner-up in each division will be announced at a May 1 awards ceremony.

NAMI Stark County offers the HAND - to - HAND Parent Education Class

“Brand Name vs. Generic Drugs” will be presented by pharmacist Kristina Dawson, RPh, BCPS, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Aultman North.
Aside from the cost, are generic drugs really different than brand names? Come learn this and other medication tips.
All programs are free and open to the public.

Oncology patients and family members are encouraged to attend a “Look Good … Feel Better” sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10 at Aultman Hospital for support and advice on managing the effects of therapy.

• receive a kit filled with $200 worth of cosmetics from National Cosmetology Association and Personal Care Products Council Foundation,
• enjoy a free makeover by a licensed cosmetologist trained on oncology needs,
• learn make-up and hair techniques,
• browse Aultman’s collection of free wigs, hats and scarves.

Trinity Brethren Church is hosting a study on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30. This study consists of a 15 minute video and discussion based on the material, If You Want to Walk on Water, You've Got to Get Out of the Boat by John Ortberg. This study is about facing our fears and choosing to follow God's direction for our lives. Trinity Brethren is located at 455 55th St. NW, N. Canton between Main and Market.
