The 44th annual Northeast Ohio Photography Show at the Canton Jewish Community Center will run from Feb. 5 through Feb. 25. The Jewish Center, at 2631 Harvard Ave. NW, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A special preview for entrants, sponsors, patrons and donors will take place at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.

Retrouvaille of Youngstown is a peer ministry dedicated to help hurting married couples. A weekend seminar will be held Feb. 5-7, 2010, at the Holiday Inn South in Boardman, Ohio. Three married couples who have gone through the program will relate their experiences in which they are bringing their marriage out of the misery or disillusionment stage. The weekend also includes the presentations by a Catholic priest who provides spiritual and sacramental support. Registration should be made soon because of limited space. The Engineer as Leader program will take place Feb. 5 and 6 at the Columbus Airport Marriott.
The program, designed to address the interests of professionals, will be led by engineering leadership expert Jim Dalton.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 5 and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 6.
Registration fees are $575 for nonmembers, $405 for Ohio Society of Professional Engineers members, and $290 enterprise member rate.

A new Kent State University Museum exhibit, “The Kokoon Arts Club: Cleveland Revels,” looks back at the iconic club formed in 1912.
The exhibit, which runs from March 19, 2009, through Feb. 28, 2010, highlights the profound effect of the club, whose most memorable activities were the annual masked balls at staged venues around the city. On display are the posters and costumes, both designed and worn by members at these extravagant balls.

Burlington Coat Factory at 4790 Everhard Rd. NW is collecting monetary donations to support the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
Donations will be accepted through Feb. 17. All Burlington Coat Factory locations will accept donations to the fund.
Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources.
Through the Help Haiti campaign, Westfield Belden Village mall is serving as a donation collection site for Convoy of Hope Charities. Donations can be made at the Concierge Center in the north wing. Proceeds are transferred directly to those in need.
Convoy of Hope is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that already has an emergency command center operating just outside of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and is distributing water and supplies to victims of the earthquake.

Pat Catan’s, at 4321 Whipple Ave. NW in Jackson Township, will have a free Valentine’s Day “Make and Not Take” event Jan. 30 through Feb. 6.
Participants can make Valentine’s cards that will be distributed to residents of nursing homes and extended care facilities. The card-making takes place from noon until 5 p.m. each day, and all supplies are provided.

This one day home study course offered by Stark Parks will cover a variety of topics such as safe firearm handling skills, hunting regulations, hunting techniques, and good sportsmanship. The course is required for anyone wishing to purchase their first hunting license. Participants must complete all end-of-chapter questions before the course, print them, and bring them to class which is at the Sippo Lake Park Clubhouse from 1-6 p.m. on March 6. “The Unguarded Moment,” a retrospective exhibit of 50 photos by Steve McCurry, opens Feb. 5 at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography with a reception from 5:30 to 10 p.m., with live music, wine and refreshments.
Admission is free.
The show will remain on view through April 2 at the gallery, at 520 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton.
Regular gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
McCurry is the photographer who took what has been called the most recognizable photograph in the world today — the green-eyed “Afghan Girl” on the cover of National Geographic in 1984.
The City of Massillon Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two youth basketball programs on Friday evenings, January 15-February 19 at the Massillon Recreation Center. Little Hoop Stars will be 5:30-6:30 pm and Hoop Stars will be 6:30-7:30 pm. Little Hoop Stars is designed to teach ages 4-6 the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense and rebounding in a fun-oriented atmosphere. Hoop Stars will teach 1st and 2nd graders more of the basketball basics and includes low-competition games so players can learn to apply their skills in a game format.
